We keep hearing about the casual gamer, but what does that actually mean? Someone wearing a pair of loafers, a cashmere jumper draped around their shoulders? Or someone who picks up a game, shrugs their shoulders and indulges in a brief meaningless affair?
Well whatever a casual gamer is we can say that Stalingrad is not for them. No, for Stalingrad demands dedication, commitment and on some occasions forgiveness for it is not always the most faithful of games.
Coming out of the Blitzkrieg game ethic, Stalingrad is a historical real time strategy game created by DTF games. For historical / military buffs, the forces at your disposal are as far as we can tell the ones that actually took part in the epic World War II battle.
There are tons of combat units in the game to master and be warned the artillery is frighteningly accurate. More scary is that the camouflage in the game is bloody good. Wandering into virgin territory that seems to be calm and serene only to witness your forces being mauled by hidden guns that were just waiting for you to come along is one of the twists Stalingrad inflicts on the unsuspecting player.
Stalingrad has 36 missions that cover both the red Army and the Wehrmacht campaigns and 7 secret missions, which are not so secret now that we have told you about them!
With over 150 infantry and armored vehicles to play with, Stalingrad delivers on depth in spades. The visuals of the maps look ok all of the landscapes are based on World War II reconnaissance photos and tactical maps of the time. But the graphics of the game are not going to please our casual gamer. Oh no, the casual gamer will need jaw dropping looks to stir their emotions and they are not to be found here.
No, Stalingrad is for the serious gamer. The type of gamer you could imagine staring out from one of those Soviet era posters demanding sacrifice, commitment and loyalty.
